Wheelchair and Mobility Scooters
So many things become more difficult for the physically disabled person that we often neglect some of the most obvious. For instance, those who are confined to a wheelchair or mobility scooter find themselves particularly at the mercy of the elements when outside.
They can’t run to get out of the rain or snow quickly, and it’s not as easy for them to escape the splash of the puddles. We could name literally dozens of ways in which inclement weather is more of an inconvenience for the handicapped person.
That is why there is such a need for all weather wear for those in wheelchairs and mobility scooters. And that’s why so many companies have now stepped up to the challenger to meet this need.
For instance, there are now items such as winter warmers, wheelchair trousers, and special neckerchiefs. There are also items that are unique to the wheelchair-bound person, such as waterproof hand guards. These will protect the disabled person’s hands and gloves, but at the same time, allow them to see the controls on the wheel chair, all while keeping both the controls and the hands safely dry inside.
There are special wrap-ups and capes that are easy to put on, even in a wheelchair, but that also keep the person warm and dry. And especially important are leg capes that keep the rain or mud puddles from splashing on the exposed legs.
The important considerations with wheelchair weather wear is to remember to protect the lower part of the body, to make sure it helps rather than hinders the person’s mobility, and to ensure that it keeps both the rain and the cold out.
These are things that all of us, including the physically challenged, deserve. And it’s something that good quality all weather wear makes possible even for those in wheelchairs or scooters.
