Prepare yourself with waterproof trousers when heading into the great outdoors

No matter what the season – Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, if you’re planning to spend any time outdoors you’re going to need waterproof clothing to help you enjoy outdoor activities.

It’s not just British weather that makes waterproof jackets and waterproof trousers essential items to pack for a trip either. If you’re heading off to Europe or beyond, the one predictable thing about the weather is that it’s unpredictable.

Trekking and camping around Europe is a great way to explore different countries and regions, providing a very different perspective on places and people. It offers a more intimate way of interacting with a place and you’re less likely to get caught in a tourist trap where the majority of people you meet are from your own country.

Whether you head south to the warmth of the Mediterranean or North to the colder air you’ll need to ensure you have the right type of equipment with you.

Popular spots for campers, walkers and hikers in Southern Europe include Sardinia, with its dramatic coastline and dense forests offering great contrasts, but perhaps most importantly it has fantastic campsite facilities. Heading to these campsites for summer has long been a tradition with the locals, so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to get to know more about local cultures and habits.

Other popular spots in Southern Europe include the Greek Islands, Southern Spain and Italy. All offer great facilities and wonderfully contrasting environments. Especially popular with Brits heading to Spain for walking adventures is the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. For over 100 years pilgrims have made the journey to Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. It is a must-do for many Catholics.

But to take part you don’t need to be Catholic or even particularly religious, but you will need waterproof clothing.

If you prefer the refreshing feeling of cooler air then head north. Norway and Germany have long traditions of hiking and camping and offer a real variety of experiences. You’ll find truly remote spots if you’re looking for quiet contemplation or you may stumble across a Bavarian beer festival if you’re in the mood for a party.

But especially when heading north it’s important to be prepared for the weather conditions that may lie ahead. Packing waterproof clothing, including men’s waterproof jackets is very important.
